Consular Services in the USA: A Guide to the Kenyan Embassy and Consulates

Kenyans living in the USA have access to consular services provided by the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC and the Consulates in New York and Los Angeles. These services include visa applications, passport renewals, and more.

One of the most important services offered by the Kenyan Embassy and Consulates is visa applications. Starting January 1st, 2021, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya will no longer issue visas manually. To apply for an e-visa, individuals can visit www.evisa.go.ke, the ONLY Authentic Online portal for all evisa applications to Kenya. It is important to note that all other online sites and portals are spurious and scams.

Another important service offered by the consulates is passport service. This service is strictly in-person and on an appointment basis only. Confirmation of appointments are done via the dedicated email address: eppt.kcla@gmail.com. Currently, only dates falling on Tuesdays and Thursdays are available. All applications must be completed online through the e-citizen portal: www.ecitizen.go.ke. To avoid delays, applicants are advised to review their passport applications before coming to the consulate and to pay special attention to the highlighted fields such as names as they appear in the passport, correct birth entry number, correct Kenyan postal addresses and postal codes, and correct details for parents, next of kin, and recommenders.

The consulates also offer services for the issuance of IDs. It is important to note that applicants holding citizenship of another country must refer to the dual citizenship page at https://immigration.go.ke/consular-services/dual-citizenship before applying for a new/replacement passport. If the other citizenship was acquired before August 2010, individuals should not apply for a Kenya ID or passport until they regain their Kenyan citizenship.

In addition to these services, the consulates also offer services for Huduma Namba, Emergency Certificates, Birth/Death General Search Forms, and Certificates of Good Conduct.

It is important to note that all inquiries regarding the E-citizen platform (payments issues, account registration, etc.) should be directed to support@citizen.go.ke and all non-E-passport inquires or appointments (ID, Birth Certificate, Dual Citizenship, etc.) should be sent to immigration@kenyaconsulatela.com.

In conclusion, the Kenyan Embassy and Consulates in the USA provide a wide range of consular services to Kenyans living in the country. It is important to be aware of the services offered, the application process, and any specific requirements to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
